In 2011, a group of Hmong American farming families formed the Hmong American Farmers Association (HAFA) because we believed the best people to support Hmong farmers are Hmong farmers themselves and that we are all lifted up when those who are affected by an unfair food system lead the change we seek.
We formed with the mission to advance the prosperity of Hmong American farmers through cooperative endeavors, capacity building and advocacy.

It’s #LaborDay, and people across the country are celebrating with picnics and parades and traveling to some of the nation’s most beautiful locations! Labor Day also marks the end of #summer for many, and it’s safe to say that a lot of people look forward to a day off work and a long weekend. It’s our last chance to relax after the high temperatures these past few months. However, you may not realize that while many have the day off on this national holiday, the people who grow our food often don’t. ![]()

You see, Labor Day coincides with the busiest time of the growing season in U.S. #agriculture, so farmers and farm laborers usually don’t get a day off or a long weekend. ![]()

The Minnesota Hmong community is the largest AAPI group in Minnesota and annually during the MN State Fair, Labor Day is dedicated to the Hmong community in Minnesota to celebrate Hmong American and their rich culture and contribution to the state of Minnesota. Hmong MN Day was founded by Tou Ger Xiong, a community leader, activist, comedian, a friend and who is an example that we can be unapologetically Hmong in any spaces, such as Hmong Minnesota Day at the Minnesota State Fair. ![]()

In honor of Tou Ger Xiong, his life and legacy, please join the rest of the Minnesota Hmong Community at the State Fair, Dan Patch Park for a tribute to Tou Ger Xiong from 10:00AM-6:00PM.
